Influenced by the Japonisme art movement of the mid 1800s. Made entirely by hand. V neck shawl lapel. Cream with blue piping at shawl lapel, pockets, placket and hem. Original vintage matched set decorative painted gold tone shank buttons. Two welt pockets lower. Muslin back, lining with belt lower. Leather facing at front hem. Antique garment not recommended for wearing. Shows some light wear and moderate discolorations commensurate with age. Comes from smoke free environment. It has long since been lost. Accompanied with family provenance: Waistcoat belonging to my grandfather William Herschal Burr. He was born in 1826. Elizabeth Mauley Carter” Penciled remark above notation in ink – “Aaron Burr’s nephew from Montclair, NJ. Although the provenance was lost we have never been able to connect the name William Herschal Burr to his supposed uncle Aaron Burr. And by the way, who cares!
